Subject: Question on music stereo type

Written By: Hairspray on 10/8/2000 at 10:09 p.m.

New Edition, Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, New Kids on the Block all did Pop music. Some refer to it as Bubble Gum music. It seems every decade has their own Bubble Gum artists. Is it because of their age group? Why are some people ashamed to admit they liked some of these groups and their stuff?

It's not that people are ashamed, really, but that maybe one does not like the specific style or the lyrics (or both). The marketing has a lot to do with this also - these artists were marketed to the younger audiences and the younger audiences responded voraciously, thus alienating any possible older audience that may like this sort of style. Personally, I like both Debbie (Deborah) Gibson and Tiffany for their sound...lyricwise, though, they're not my cup of tea.
