Subject: Identify Band

Written By: Shannon Thoke on 10/29/2000 at 2:50 p.m.

This band has a black lead singer and sang a ballad that had heavy rotation on MTV. They might have had the title dream in the title of a song. The lead singer was a big guy and maybe had dreads. Any help?

Do you have a year? This is just a shot in the dark. Not sure I would call this song a ballad but it is slow. Could you be thinking of Stevie B - "Dreamin' of Love" from 88.

Hmmm there's a few this could be. I remember an 80's all black rock band called Living Color, but I don't recall them having a ballad. Maybe they did, I never listened to them.

The only other one I know is Hootie and the Blowfish. The singer is the only black guy in the band. There are 3 of their songs that I heard a lot on the radio. Hold My Hand, Let Her Cry, and Only Wanna Be With You.

Living Color is an 80's band, Hootie and the Blowfish is a 90's band.

As for the title of Dream, I don't know. Living Color is the only all black rock band that I've ever heard of, and Hootie is the only rock band I've ever seen with a black singer.

Oh yeah... Living Color I think did dreads, but Hootie did not that I know of.

Not a definite this is who you are talking about, but sounds like it to me.

Actully, I know both Hootie and Living Color and it is neither. The lead singer was pretty big with dreads, not thin. They were more like Hootie than Living Color, but are neither. Any other ideas?

My guess would be Aaron Neville of the the Neville brothers... he's done work with them (in which case the whole band would be black) and some solo stuff too. He's build like a linebacker...

I also know who Aaron Neville is, but the group I am thinking of has less muscle and more fat in the lead singer. I am thinking of a video in which the background was blue and there were two people highlighted in the video. I think the title is something like dreaming of walking through...any more ideas?

The band you are describing could be Milli Vanilli.

Subject: So what? PM Dawn wasn't 80's

Written By: TX on 10/31/2000 at 12:38 a.m.

I was referring to PM Dawn NOT Milli Vanilli. If you notice my response was under "Re: Identify Band - PM DAWN" posted on (Sunday, 29 October 2000, at 6:52 p.m. EST.) NOT "This Is Probably Wrong, But" which was posted on (Monday, 30 October 2000, at 12:11 a.m. EST.) five hours after my post. I know when Milli Vanilli came out. Thanks anyway.
