Subject: Who sung the song, "Send Me An Angel"?

Written By: Andrew on 11/5/2000 at 1:06 p.m.

Does anybody know? It goes: "Send me an angel...right now...". It may be an easy one, I just can't recognize the voice.

Subject: Scorpions? Nah. It's Real Life.

Well, the first band that popped into my mind was The Scorpions (they too had a song called "Send Me An Angel" - but that song is never played on the radio). You said it was easy, so it's definitely the song by Real Life (I think they're from Australia). Last time I checked they still had one album still in print, but not the one with the song...

PS- I need to have a hearing test done, but at moments I can see a resemblance between the voices of the lead singers of these two bands.

I'm like a little kid during "show and tell". For those of you who refuse to give up listening to this genre of music, (Devo, The Smiths, The Cure, you know, the eighties dancable New Wave stuff), but have friends threatening you with electroshock therapy if you don't update your CD collection, I have an answer. Remake compillations. No, no, hear me out! Not bastardizations, but real and true tributes. "Newer Wave" from 21st Century has fabulous workings of "The Chauffeur", "Sex Dwarf", and "Cars". The CD "New Wave Goes To Hell" from Cleopatra Records claims to be a gothic-industrial tribute to 80's dance music and includes "Relax", "Mad World" and, yes, "Send Me An Angel". Admittedly some of the bands did barely recognizable covers, but they make me happy.
If I am alone in my sad sad little obsession, ignore me. On the other hand, if anyone else has stumbled onto some remade gems, let me know.

B-Movie remade their famous song "Nowhere Girl" in 1985, but the original was done in 1980 (I LOVE this version far better than the one that's constantly played on the radio). Alpahaville remixed "Big In Japan" to be extended and "Forever Young" was remixed so it would have a faster tempo. Falco (and this was a horrible example of how Americanized versions ruin the original) had "Rock Me Amadeus" remade into this horrible tripe that doesn't even have lyrics beside the phrase "Amadeus...Rock Me Amadeus" and some nonsingers thrown in for crappy effects (it's all about the Austrian version!!!). Naked Eyes had two versions of "Promises Promises" (an all-time favourite song of mine): the US version and the UK version - the differences seem minute to the naked ear (no pun intended), but a phrase or two was changed and the songs have different timings. The song "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora was remixed in a compilation cd titled Club Hitz Of The 90s and was just plain awful (just the remixed parts).

So compilation cds, especially those that contain remixes and remakes, are like a bag of jellybeans: yeah, you might get a strawberry one, then a pina colada one, apple, banana, and grape, but in the mix you'll also get lime, orange, cranberry, cherry, grapefruit, and the dreaded black ones - moreso than the good ones.
