Subject: John Lennon: The Last Years:BTM

Written By: james martin on 12/6/2000 at 11:35 p.m.

Last night, I saw what was the emotional BTM episode since "The Day The Music Died". It was the last days of John Lennon. It covers the 5yrs. he spent away from the music scene and the making of what was to be somewhat his COMEBACK (last) album, "Double Fantasy" in 1980. I cried when I first heard about on Monday Night Football whie I was taking a bath. When I saw it first Sunday night, I cried again when they were showing the scenes of the people standing at the Roosevelt hospital & The Dakotas. I couldn't help it by re-seeing it again twice.I was wondering what was your reaction when you heard that John Lennon was dead and where were you when it happened? I'm sorry... I was about to cry again after typing this since this Friday marks the 20th anniversary of that fateful unexpected night that the world will never, ever forget. If anybody wasn't moved with that episode, don't type your response.

is I hear a local station, WAAF, a quite lame station hard rock (oh, I'm sorry Alternative, they play Nirvana sometimes) talking about playing a Beatles tune this morning in tribute.. and get this, they want to play Helter Skelter in John Lennon's memory... what's sad is no one called in (to my knowledge) to tell them it wasn't written by John but by Paul.. and some idiot called in to say "Hey, maybe you should play 'Live and Let Die' by GNR as a tribute" which is really, really sad... this is reason #123 in why pop culture is on a rocket sled to hell in the 90s and now, it appears the 2000s are following suit...

That is sick, first off "Helter Skelter" has been associated with the Manson Murders and "Live & Let Die" had nothing to do with John Lennon.

Why not play "Imagine" or even George Harrison's tribute song to him, "All Those Years Ago".

Also, why not "Empty Garden(Hey, Hey Johnny) by Elton John or "Here Today" from Tug Of War (if anybody remembers that song. I do in fact, I have the album. Whoever runs that station, should be fired for being disrespectful to Lennon's memory and his music. I'll make any bet he's turning over his grave right now. Hello!!! haven't you heard "Give A Peace A Chance" THAT"S ADDRESS TO THE STATION!!!!!
