Subject: We need an 80s movie countdown (Please Read)

Written By: John Kilduff on 12/31/2000 at 9:55 p.m.

I remember that back in June, AFI made their list of the funniest movies of all time. I was miffed that several personal favorites didn't make it on there. That gave me an idea...

How about we make a list entitled "The 100 Greatest Movies Of The 80s?". Now before anyone says anything, my idea does not entail the list being Internet-exclusive. I'm proposing taking this idea to network television. The 80s are a decade that does not get nearly enough respect. Hopefully, if a list were made, we might be able to gain a little (more) respect for the decade.

A few ideas:

1.) Voting, instead of being narrowed down to those in the entertainment sector, would be open to the public.

2.) Voting could be done online, through the mail, or by telephone.

3.) Sponsors could provide tie-ins and contests to go along with the special.

How many movies should be on the list from which the final 100 will be chosen?

Whatever the amount, all contenders would be judged by varying criteria, including, but not limited to:

-Look
-Music
-Style
-Quotability
-Feel

(If anybody can come up with other criteria, I would appreciate it)

I'll try to think of more ideas as the weeks wear on. What do the board's members think of this idea, and would I have support? I'll work on a list of studio addresses, and maybe this dream might come true.

Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

John Kilduff
