Subject: Einsturzende Neubaten

Actually, this should be posted in the 70s messageboard, but this band became more active in the 80s.

I was wondering, what do you guys think of this band? I just got their latest album, Silence Is Sexy. I could not get into it for the life of me - actually, I hated it. But I'm curious as to how this band became so big and famous. Their music, if it can be termed as such, goes beyond the experimental and into the ridiculous (I picture the story of The Emperor's New Clothes). Did they have a different sound before perhaps? In a book of Industrial Music, they are categorized as pioneers and geniouses of modern pop music and paved the way for bands like Depeche Mode - I find that hard to believe! If anyone served as inspiration for DM, I would have immediately said it would be Kraftwerk, Brian Eno, and/or Roxy Music, but E. Neubaten? Whoa! Anyone have an opinion on this? Information? Web sites? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply on our ongoing 90's chat, will get back to you shortly.
Ok this is the best i can do on this group. They formed about mid 1980, they were so hard to listen
too, i mean you could undertand their gibbering at times.Musical instruments consisted of construction equipment, power tools and hammers etc. Very leftfield yes. They produced an EP around 81 called "Schwarz" i think thats it. They got a contract with a mob called "Some Bizzare records". They copped heaps from club owners and the press for trashing the stage and starting fights. Adventurous group, still somehow standing
20 years thus far, thats all i can tell you about
"Einsturzende Neubauten".
Cheers
