Subject: Toonsis the Cat

Can anyone tell me in what year this cat appeared? Also, was it a cartoon, character in a TV show, comic strip? Am I spelling it correctly? Thanks.

Toonces (I believe that is the spelling, but I could be a little off) appeared on Saturday Night Live in 1988.

I only ever saw 2 or 3 skits. The cat was obviously a puppet, but still pretty funny.

One skit had it driving the car and crashing over a cliff causing an explosion, the other one (which I thought was FAR funnier) had toonces typing a letter on a typewriter, and watching a cat (albeit fake) pounding the keys with its paws was hilarious.

About 2 years ago I saw a video at Blockbuster (or maybe it was Hollywood?) for rent that was exclusively toonces, the deal is that the tape was only 24 minutes and that was too short.

Toonces might have made it into 1989, and might have been shown on reruns, but for all practical purposes, it was only in 1988. I remember the skit with the car going over the cliff had Victoria Jackson in it. Either they only did a few episodes with it, or I missed most of them.

So basically, it was a skit on SNL for 1 season, it was a puppet (I don't recall if they ever had a live cat for any reason), I don't think it was ever a comic strip, and the skit died quickly.

Look on amazon for the video. You might be able to find it there. I've never looked.

Thanks. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The cat was a puppet character in an ongoing skit on Saturday Night Live in the late 80s/early 90s..He was known as Toonces the Driving Cat...each skit would end up with him driving off in a car and driving off a cliff and crashing. They also mixed in footage of a live cat behind the wheel..
