Subject: Okay, I need help--anyone remember this song??

Written By: Marci on 1/31/2001 at 10:59 p.m.

The song was called "Samantha", I believe, and as I recall it was about an unplanned pregnancy or something of that nature..Some of the lyrics are:

What ya gonna do, what ya gonna do
Saman...Samantha..
The ticking of the clock is a chilling sound

It was done by a guy, and it was kind of "dark" sounding. It would have been out in the mid-late 80's, and though I can totally hear the song in my head, I have had NO luck finding out or remembering who the singer or band is.
If anyone has any idea, I would be ever so grateful!! :o)

Your "mystery song" is "Samantha (What You Gonna Do?)" by Cellarful of Noise, a minor hit here in the U.S. in the Spring of '88. It was off the band's 1988 album, "Magnificent Obsession". Unfortunately, the album is long out-of-print, and has never been re-issued on CD here in the U.S. I have the cassette myself - great album!

Incidentally, Cellarful of Noise was a side project created in the mid '80s by Donnie Iris keyboardist Mark Avsec. (He was also keyboardist in the '70s band Wild Cherry, of "Play That Funky Music" fame.) "Magnificent Obsession" was CoN's second album, and featured none other than Iris himself on lead vocals (including the hit, "Samantha"). You may remember Iris best for his own two big hits, "Ah! Leah!" in the Winter of '81, and "Love is Like a Rock" in the Winter of '82...

Thanks so much!! Now that I hear their name I remember! I had taped it off the radio years ago, but couldn't locate that old tape anywhere. Then I was talking to a lady about girls names, and since I named my own daughter after an old 80's tune, her daughter, named Samantha, just totally stuck the song in my head! I was beginning to worry that it was so obscure no one would know it. Thanks for letting me know I wasn't crazy! :o)
