Subject: River's Edge on DVD...Finally!

Written By: Britton on 2/5/2001 at 5:29 p.m.

Thanks to whoever it was that pointed out that River's Edge was going to be released on DVD. I got it last weekend, and it only has the theatrical trailer for extras, it still rules! Seeing it in widescreen is good, too! It's released on MGM video under the Avant-Gard sub name. This is an excellent movie that all who grew up in the '80's should see. It's about a group of high school friends who try to help out one of them that strangles his girlfriend and leaves her body beside the river. I first watched the movie back when it came out just because the soundtrack had Slayer, Hallow's Eve, and Fates Warning, but was awe-struck at how good the movie was. It showcases very well the atitude a lot of kids had of not caring about anything due to alienation, under-parenting, and the constant threat of nuclear war. One guy asks the killer if he loved his girlfriend he just killed, and he casually says "She was O.K.". You'd do yourself a favor to at least rent it if you never saw it before, or if you did, watch it again! It stars Crispin Glover as Layne, who has to be seen to believe in this movie. It also stars a unhead of at the time Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper, Ione Skye, Daniel Roebuck, and Joshua Miller.
