Lets' see, a typical weekend for my friends and me, circa 1980-83... small town, you have to understand, so we did a lot of cruising and hanging out in parking lots. And we'd hang at the record store looking for new music by almost any metal band. Van Halen was good, but we bought other more mainstream stuff too. And we played Dungeons and Dragons, and went to the arcade to play Pac-Man, etc. Movies we saw were Blade Runner (still a favorite of mine), Cat People (a real dud), Endangered Species (which was nothing like I expected - I went thinking it was an alien flick), The Thing (still awesome), Swamp Thing (no comment), ST: The Wrath of Khan (still my favorite Trek movie), Heavy Metal (classic soundtrack!), The Beast Within, Dragonslayer, Outland (Connery rocked!), Escape From NY, The Entity, Hangar 18, Altered States, Scanners, Christine, Krull, Nightfall (sf based on an Asimov short story) and of course those immortal classics Yor, Hunter From the Future and Metalstorm: the Destruction of Jared-Syn (pre-Night Court Richard Moll). LOL Some of those movies were real duds, but what does a teenager know? It was Saturday night and we wanted to go have a good time. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane!

Golden Girls? Yuck! Yes, they were popular, but I didn't watch it, nor did anybody I knew. I was so into music back then, that the only movie I ever remember seeing was The Breakfast Club at the movies, and I hated it! If I watched anything, it was Laurel and Hardy, Saturday Night Live, or Benny Hill. I did go see some fantasy Movies when I was younger, such as The Dark Crystal and Willow. Along with the Airplane! movies. My typical week was to go to school, hang out and listen to metal (metal is all I did listent to then, as now), and go to my part time job. I'd then get paid on Thursday, set aside 20 dollars for gas for my car, and blow the rest on cassettes. I live in a small town, so on the weekend we'd make it a day long trip to buy new music, go out and eat, etc. Me and my buddies went fishing a lot after school too when there was nothing else to do. We'd also spend a lot of time at the arcade playing games. Ahhh....talking about it makes me feel good.

i don't know what the others were talking about but the movie "the breakfast club" was a perfect way to get to know how it was in the 80's. all those characters were real renditions of typical teens. i feel like i went to that school! i live in lower east mich. and our big thing was to cruise gratiot( a main street) and pick up people.it was differant then...not everyone expected to sleep with someone they just met. we liked looking clean(not like today) and hair was so important! we all looked different! you could do anything with your hair and look cool.it was the only decade where you could easily say that your favorite bands were- depeche mode, motley crew and the culture club not many kids are that diverse now a days. the year 1984 was the most diverse ever! look up the billboard charts for that year.all sorts of bands were making it big!
it was the best decade ever! the last of the good ones as far as i'm concerned.
