Subject: 80s fashion question - leggings

Written By: Aly on 2/16/2001 at 2:14 a.m.

Hello all!

I am doing some research on 80s fashions and I am stuck on the topic of leggings. I've heard they were a quite popular part of the 80s wardrobe. I have a few questions about this look, and figured I would come to "the source"!

Are leggings considered the same as stretch pants? (snug, tight-fitting?) What did the '80s girls wear the leggings with? Also, what kind of footwear was worn with these leggings outfits?

Any answers or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all!

Aly

>>>>>Hey Aly. I remember leggings being close to what you described..Some being snug around the hip area, as well as looser fitting around the same area..but they were always tight from the knee down...In many cases they are just like the stretch pants that have been around since then. The fuller top style leggings inspired the harem pants look which were very full and baggy from the hip all the way down to the ankles, where they fit snuggly..I had many pairs of leggings as well as harem pants back in the 80s! Both were fashion staples!

No offense Todd, but I've never seen a male wear harem pants?

: April >>>>>DOnt worry April, no offence taken..If you think wearing harem pants was weird for a guy, why dont you read my profile and find out what other gals clothes from the 80s I wore too! I never limited myself to just guys clothes...way too boring...And besides, dont you remember MC Hammer? I dont know if it was 89 or 90...but his video for "Cant Touch This" has him in HUGE harem pants..he practically made that fashion his own back then! 80s RULE!!
