Subject: Rags to Riches

Written By: stephanie on 2/17/2001 at 2:54 a.m.

Rags to Riches was on T.V in 87 and 88. It was about a bunch of orphaned teenage girls who are adopted by a rich man. No one remembers this show, but me it seems. Does anyone have any recollections about R&R?

Not remember Rags To Riches? I bet every one of the girls I went to Brownies with can still sing you some of the songs those girls used to do!

For some reason, I remember that the "Dad" was played by Joseph Bologna. That let me search to find the following info on the 1986 movie which preceded the tv series:

"Millionaire Nick Foley has risen from the gritty streets of New Jersey to Beverly Hills. He decides to improve his public image and adopts six orphan girls, ranging in age from about 6-15. The cards dealt him an immediate full house and coping is more comical and heartwarming than he ever imagined. This film is filled with musical numbers from the 1950's."

Do you remember the episode where the girls are going to be sent back to the orphanage? To the tune of "Dream Maker", they sing:

Can't you see we're not that sad
Didn't really want a Dad
Weren't meant for luxury
Won't miss the pool or the color tv
We're better off, I guess
Inside we knew
That there's no dream maker
And dreams like ours just don't come true

Like I said, we always used to sing the songs. We went from "Annie" to "Rags To Riches".

Hope that helps a little. At least it will give you something to search from...

I remember the show. If I recall, one of the actresses on the show became kind of popular a couple years after that show, but I can't remember her name.

Tecia Cambell was the older daughter that went onto working with Martin Lawrence in "Martin" back in the early 90s. Tecia Cambell also has a few cds out too!
One other girl the little one was casted in a show called "Just the Ten of Us" that was a spin off of "Growing Pains".
The other cast of girls went off to other things
