Subject: Speaking of snacks...

Written By: Sal Collaziano on 2/21/2001 at 8:57 a.m.

Hey. I just saw the message about Dolly Madison and started thinking about "Little Debbie" snacks. I'm sure you've noticed that just about every snack cake on the market has become dry and shriveled in size. Right? Remeber how good these things were in the 80s? Funny Bones had plenty of that peanut butter cream in them. Twinkies? Ditto. Those dark chocolate and moist snack cakes with the chocolate layer on top and a white spiral swirl going across (what are they called again?) - they're dry and practically mini-sized these days..

If you ever want a good snack that's STILL good - even in the year 2001, try any Little Debbie snack. They're still big, fresh, and stuffed with "stuff".

Are you thinking, perhaps, of Ding Dongs?

I remember the Dolly Madison snacks very well b/c the Peanuts gang were featured in lots of their advertising.

Yeah, Hostess Cupcakes are the ones that have chocolate on the top of a devil's food cake filled with cream and topped by a white icing zig zag swirl. Ding Dongs, the superior cake, are slightly smaller, although a richer and more moist chocolate cake with a cream filling and a chocolate covering all over wrapped in tinfoil.
Both seem to have lost some of the volume of the cream filling, or maybe my fingers are just bigger. They still sell them both in the local grocery store. I just recently reacquainted myself with them when my daughter became old enough to find that isle. It's not even close to the vegi healthfood isle.
