Subject: you are good if you can find this one!

Written By: Mike Kyle on 2/21/2001 at 11:42 a.m.

I'm 31, mtv came about when early thirty somethings started to appreciate and buy music. I remember a video and the name of a song but I can't find the group that sang it. The name of the song is Brandy. It was sung by a heavy metal/hard rock band. I remember the lead singer being bald. I for the life of me cannot remember or find the group. Help me out if you can.

I think what you are looking for is "Branded" by Rose Tattoo, (not "Brandy.") It was off their album Angry Metal. They were an Aussie hard rock combo with a bald lead singer.

Damn, TX! Sounds like you've been hitting the books, based on some of the music q's you've been answering around here lately! I don't know if Rose Tattoo's "Branded" is the song Mike is looking for or not, but I gotta give you credit for offering that answer! (Never would've come up w/ that one myself, but I agree, it sounds like it has strong possibilities.) Don't know how you dug that up, but Rose Tattoo had only minimal success in the U.S. (most of their albums did come out here, but they never scored a single hit on either the pop or AOR charts), so I know most folks here haven't even heard of 'em...

"Angry Metal" is actually a compilation album (the title being a reference to bald lead singer Gary "Angry" Anderson, and their overall sound); "Branded" originally appeared on Rose Tattoo's 1982 album, "Scarred for Life", and was a minor hit in Australia in early '83. If it even came out as a single here, it failed. Don't know if MTV played any of their videos or not...

Actually, the MTV playlist is where I found the answer. They didn't list a "Brandy." So I looked for something close. I downloaded the song, don't think I ever heard it before.

I think it is just a case of having too much time on my hands.
