Subject: My description of an ultimate 80's video!

Written By: Andrew on 2/27/2001 at 9:32 p.m.

The ultimate 80's video would be any video that contained any woman with big HUGE dark hair walking down a catwalk wearing big hooped earings, a short leather skirt, black high heels, a leather jacket, lots of makeup (eye-shadow, blush...etc.), tons of chains wrapped around her, fishnet stockings and anything see-through. This would look best in the dark, with a tiny bit of light with lots of 80s smoke. This type of video would be typical in 1987. I love the concept, don't you? Cher's "I Found Someone" video represents this quite well.

Personally, I like the Eurotrash look of the early 80s where fascist-type apparel was worn: the visor hats with the little skull insignia, the leather clothing, knee high boots, mesh clothing, the ripped tank tops, badly applied make-up (sometimes it was just smeared on), frizzied hair of all colors (I prefer blonde and red), chokers and gauntlets with studs - pretty much what Madonna wore in some of her early gigs and videos.
I think "Everybody" has this look, but it's been a loooong time since I've seen it...

Well, let's see... Madonna on lead vocals...Mariah Carey,Sheena Easton,Tiffany, and Debbie Gibson on background vocals...Lita Ford and Joan Jett on guitars...Sheila E. on drums...Suzanne Ciani on keyboards...Paula Abdul,Janet Jackson, and Vanity as dancers...and the Stock/Aiken/Waterman team as producers. Sounds good to me!

Or the androgynous-looking types like David Bowie and the movie Liquid Sky. The extravagant attires of Spandau Ballet, Roxy Music, and Miami Vice.

Yeah, David Bowie! I just rekindled that flame when my daughter and I watched Labrinth on TV the other day. And Mick Jagger!!! I had such a thing for him. I wanted him to "come to my emotional rescue, on a fine Arab Charger"! But, I think of both of them in a 70's context, even though their great talent has carried them through several decades. I think that is because I was introduced to both of their music in the Disco saturated 70's and was SAVED. I was a "Dancing Queen" and had a crush on Shawn Cassidy until my girlfriend introduced me to "real music" and we became Steve Nick dress alikes and Led Zeplin zoners.
Maybe this reminising belongs on the 70's board. Well, then the 80's came and we had so much more to choose from. Yeah for the 80's. Bye.
