Subject: Three Men & A Baby Question

Written By: Hairspray on 3/13/2001 at 9:25 p.m.

What the heck was that boy doing behind the curtains of that one scene? He definitely wasn't supposed to be there. Why would the film editing team let something like that slip past them?

Same way John Ritter's puppies got loose on that 3's Company episode, and someone just noticed it recently on Nick at Nite. How it could happen I don't know, but it apparently did. You'd think that in 20 years of reruns *someone* would have noticed before now.

Subject: I Heard It Was Actually A Ghost!!!

Written By: Hairspray on 3/13/2001 at 10:35 p.m.

There was apparently some dark history connected to the particular place they filmed the movie.
In the movie there's also a shadow of a rifle/shotgun behind curtains.
I just really wanted to know if anyone else had heard about this and if there's any truth to it or if it was just a marketing ploy.
One thing is certain for me -
I got the chills when I saw these things in the movie. It was the freakiest feeling.
Hopefully someone will enlighten us!

Subject: Cardboard Cutout

Written By: chrispc on 3/13/2001 at 11:15 p.m.

This has been a big urban legend since not long after the release of the movie. I have heard all kinds of rumors about a dead kid, etc. The real story is that it was a prop, a cardboard cutout of Ted Danson (with a top hat and cane) that was put on the set as a joke.

Subject: "ghost"

Written By: b on 3/13/2001 at 11:11 p.m.

I had found this on IMDB.com before:

"When Jack's mother comes to visit Mary, you can see in the background what appears to be a little boy standing in a doorway. There is a rumor that this is the ghost of a little boy who died in the apartment in which the film was shot. This rumour is false, as the interiors were all shot on a sound stage in a movie studio. The "ghost" is actually a cardboard cut-out of Jack wearing a tuxedo. This prop appears later in the film, when Mary's mother comes to collect her. [There is more information available about this "ghost" under the "Hyperlinks" icon on the movie's main page.]"

I observe this-

That the figure is definitely not wearing a tux. No top-hat. Not as tall. Face visible to a good degree enough to notice it looks nothing like Ted D., but much more like a young boy.

Perhaps the explanation given by the movie team was because they didn't want to chance bad or negative publicity. Who knows.

I posted a little snippet from IMDB already for you and it mentioned this as well:

"This prop appears later in the film, when Mary's mother comes to collect her."

Why don't you compare the figure from that scene and then look for it again here (unless it's just the silhouette or whatever again.) I don't have the movie so I don't know.

I have seen that movie scene a million times over kicking myself over what I see. Once I read that it wasn't a boy but rather a cardboard cutout, I looked a million times again and realized that it *is* Ted Danson in a top hat. The cardboard cutout is just folded and leaning against the door so you can't see the bottom half. It is hard to tell with all the shadows and movement, but it isn't a boy, the image is much too flat!
