Subject: 80's toys

Written By: Kristin on 3/16/2001 at 2:21 p.m.

I need help remembering the name of this toy that was popular around the same time that shrinky dinks were. They were kind of like permanent colorforms. It was usually a poster scence that you unfolded and it contained sheets with characters and accessories on them that you had to scribble over with a pencil and they transfered onto the scene. I used to get those all the time. I remember you could get things that batman, cabbage patch kids and strawberry shortcake. If anyone can remember the name of these or who manufactured them, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Oh my gawd!!! Ebay has lots of those up for bid. The manufacturer was American Publishing Corp. They have Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, etc.

The name of the toy you're thinking of is Presto Magix. I'm not sure who made them though. I'm gonna check out ebay real quick, and I'll let you know if I find out something.

becareful, the Presto Magix that were in the stores in the 90's are actually like Colorforms. the ones from the 70's/80's are as you described, with the pencil-scratching needed. i bring it up because i work at Toys R Us, and was excited a few years ago when i saw Presto Magix on the shelf, but bummed when i saw that they had changed.

i had several, including Batman, Spiderman, Star Wars, and even Dukes of Hazzard. they were cool.
