Subject: questions for everyone that comes here!:)

Written By: Rachel on 3/23/2001 at 11:13 p.m.

Hi, I am only 16 so I was born in the 80's but didn't really grow up in them. I have to do a school project on the decade of the 1980's, well actually I chose the 1980's, this decade seemed like fun. Anyway for this project we have to write a 3 page paper which won't be hard, and put together some kind of portfolio. The decade is considered to be from 1980 to 1989 (ten years) Anyways, I have to find out things like how much gas was in the 80's, how much minimum wage was for females and males, in the 80's things like that. And I was wondering if anyone could help me or tell me a good web site. We also have to have a like a good theme song that sums up the eighties, or summarizes it. I have about a month to complete this project. So please e-mail me if you have any information, or even good suggestions, I am trying to get a good grade. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Minimum wage was $3.35/hour and THE song of the 80's was "Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue.

Another song you might want to consider as a theme song of the 80's is: White Lines by Grand Master Flash. This song deals with drugs that became popular in the "white urban population" because it was now so easy to get. The former first lady, Nancy Reagan launched a "just say no" campaign against drugs during the 1980's and this song I believe tried to send out this message to the young people.

Hi! I'm 21, I was born in 1980 and I had a couple things to add. I think Starship "We built this city" would be a great theme song. I remeber roller skating to it down at our local roller rink. Back when it was cool to have your birthday party there. Slap bracelets, Jellies, Puff paint, the Miami vice look, big hair, side ponytails, unisex shirts with the diagonal flaps, leg warmers, black and white checkered Vans(shoes), Roos sneakers with velcro straps and a side pocket for ice-cream money, Knight-Rider(the t.v. show), the A-Team(t.v. show), and Alf were all popular. My mom drove a green Pinto with an 8-track in it. We had an 8-track and a record player combined that we had in the house. I still have it too. If you need any questions answered I'd be happy to help. Just let me know. I know a bunch about the 80's.

I found my senior memories book, where there is a page that we filled out the prices of certain things during that time (which was 1988). Keep in mind prices varied by area too (I'm in MD.). Gas was $.95-$1.10, an album was $9-12.00, the movies were $5.00, video games $.25-.50, an automobile was $8,000-13,000, a concert was $16.50-21.00, and a candy bar was $.40-.50. I hope this helps you some..good luck on your report!

I don't think I can be of much assistance regarding gas prices and minimum wage (unless you want to know about Vancouver, BC, Canada)... But as far as a song that sums up the 80's, how about "We Are the World"?

i think that song "we didn't start the fire" by billy joel had a quick political summary of the 80's as well as a few decades before that.. ??

My first job in 1987 was minimum wage, I was paid $3.35 an hour. Not too long after that it went up to $3.75.

Hope this helps.
