NOOOOOOOO Tx (finally an animal question!) Hooch was a French Mastiff or Dogue De Bordeau as the breed is regestered as.

The Neopolitian Mastiff is bigger, in the vein of the English Mastiff, and come in black, brindle, lt.brn.(called fawn and not geneticaly desirable) and their signature color blue (which looks a silvery grey).

The Douge De Bordeau is a smaller dog, in the vein of the Bull Mastiff, and comes in a few colors but predominantly in the red brown you see in Hooch.

See link for conformation. Thanx.

Well I wasn't positive on the Neapolitan part. I only new half the answer. My cousin has one, and he said it was a Mastiff. So I looked it up to confirm it and saw there were all kinds of Mastiffs. I just went by the picture (below), it looked like Hooch to me (unlike the Belgian Mastiff and most of the others.) I did look at their picture of a Dogue de Bordeaux, and it did look a lot more like Hooch.

Thanks for clearing it up.
