Subject: Remake rip offs

Written By: Class of 84 on 3/27/2001 at 9:54 p.m.

Has anyone noticed some of the new songs using old music tracks such as "Jack and Diane" and a madonna 80's tune, but using new lyrics to them? What's up with that crap any way?

Wish I knew. There aren't very many original pop tunes lately. Or all the good ideas are taken...

BTW, P.M. Dawn did the original "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss" which sampled Spandau Ballet's "True" and Run-DMC did "Walk This Way" with Aerosmith (re: Marci & pegacornj's posts).

LOL! I actually thought I was hearing things the first time I heard that Jessica Simpson song with the music from "Jack and Diane". I turned it up and just started laughing.
How about "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss" by the Backstreet Boys? I mean, don't get me wrong, Backstreet is one of the very few groups of this day and age that I like--but heck, "Set Adrift" was a remake of "True" back when Heavy D did it!!
I know it's been going on a long time, (Can we say 'Vanilla Ice'? LOL!) and I know there were many BEFORE him..but talk about feeling old!!

For the record, it was PM Dawn that originally recorded "Set Adrift". And yes they sampled "True" by Spandau Ballet.

Damn, I so knew that too! I was sitting here with both of my old cd singles in my head, and all I kept thinking of was the "Now That We Found Love" video with the multicolored raincoats..oh well, it was late, that's my excuse...:o)
