Subject: 80s Cringers

Written By: MDC on 3/30/2001 at 7:36 a.m.

Okay, guys... we've already named all of our favorite songs from the 80s, now it's time to list the 80s songs that make us cringe... What are some of your least favorite songs from the 80s? My list (and it's a short one, since most of the music from the 80s was fabulous) would be comprised of:

"She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dolby

"I Can't Wait" by Nu Shooz

"Pretty Mess" by Vanity

"Sex Dwarf" by Soft Cell

"Rock Lobster" by The B-52's...

I can't think of a single song that made me cringe then. Alot got played to death and I wouldn't listen to them on the radio, but I really can't remember a song that made me go "ew".

today, I can't stand "Mickey", "Come On Eileen", and "Blinded Me With Science" just because they seem to be on every 80's compilation & played on alwmost every 80's radio show.

You know, I hated 'She Blinded Me With Science' at the time, but now it doesn't bother me nearly so badly.
I totally agree with Nu Shooz--I hated that one. The beat was too wierd and--ooh, just yuck!! Still makes me cringe...but some others--

--"Walking on Sunshine"--to this DAY that song is overplayed.

--"Don't Worry, Be Happy" was another one that was played far too often.

--About anything Whitney Houston did was played to death and just BUGGED me.

--"The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades" What can I say, just annoying.

--"Obsession" by Animotion

--And I'm sorry, but "Bette Davis Eyes"--I couldn't stand it then and I can't stand it now.

--"That's Just the Way It Is" by Bruce Hornsby. My husband would argue me to no end on that one, but it just wasn't my thing and I just heard it too much.

What can I say--I mean, sure there were a few that stick out as horrendous to me personally--but overall, the 80's music was EXCELLENT and I'd take most any of it over most anything out there today.
