Subject: Question for Chucky....

Written By: April on 5/2/2001 at 12:23 p.m.

Chucky, I was wondering if it's necessary to have that pop-up on this site? Personally, I think pop-up's are highly annoying.
Please don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing your site (I love it!), it's just those pop-ups that I hate.

Thanks,
April

unfortunately, the stupid banner ads don't really make much money anymore.. running those damn popups for the last two weeks made more money for the site than banner ads did for the last three months. I'd love to do away with the banner ads, but they need to run in order to demonstrate how many page views a month I get..

Anyways... they're supposed to end this week and they actually advertise some decent stuff (no cameras or spam sites) The Warner Bros. link was actually pretty decent.

I actually wrote the code for the banner company I use so they only appear once per visit to the site (I set a temporary cookie).. had I done it the way they used to do it, they'd be much more annoying

and if you think the popups are bad, you should see the 250x250 pixel ads they wanted to run (image a picture which is as big as the form you use to post on this messageboard)

advertising is one of those sins.. you gotta have it to keep the site free, even if it doesn't make much money overall..

If it keeps the site free, then that's cool. They're annoying, but I think I can deal

Thanks!
April

trust me.. I know what you mean..

at least I try and keep them focused to stuff people who visit the site might like... E! expressed interest yesterday in running an ad for their upcoming 80s week.. so that would actually be pretty cool.. it's the type of advertising I'd like to run more often..
