Subject: Casey Kasem and AT40

Written By: Dave on 6/15/2001 at 11:39 a.m.

Is anyone certain why Casey left American Top 40 in 1988? I suspect he was replaced because producers thought Shadoe would appeal to younger listeners, but I saw something on the web the other day that suggested that he left for greener pastures. Does anyone here know for sure?

I highly recommend hitting your local book store (big chains such as Barnes & Noble and Borders will have it) or shopping on-line (see link to the item itself at "amazon.com" below) and buying the new hardcover book titled "American Top 40: The Countdown of the Century" by Rob Durkee. Cover price is $24.95. I have the book myself. It tells just about everything you'd ever want to know about the highly popular radio program, including interviews w/ both Kasem and Stevens, and just why Kasem left in 1988, and under what circumstances. I grew up listening to "AT40" religiously during the early to mid '80s, and this book is a great read - check it out!

lol. I thought the whole idea behind the message board was to make info easier to find and now you're telling me you know the answer, but you aren't going to tell me? You must be getting commissions on every book sold. lol! It does sound interesting, but until I can spare the change, buying the book is out of the question for me. Won't you let me slide this once?
