HELP! I am looking for an 80s girl band...they were like Bananarama, and The Bangles, but were not them. Can someone steer me in the right direction on this? Thanks!

>>>> I think a distinction needs to be made between "bands" and "groups". In the music world, band refers to a group of musicians who PLAY their own instruments.. These would be the Go-Go's, the Bangles, Vixen..etc. Girl "GROUPS" would be the others...Bananarama, Supremes, Pointer Sisters, Spice Girls..etc.. I dont blame anyone for this other than the media who started calling boy groups of the 90s like Backstreet Boys and Nsync "bands"..boy bands..we need to stop refering to them as "bands"!! Anyone else agree?

That's how I see it. Wanna bes like Backdoor Boys, N Sync, Hansen (death penalty anyone?), Spice Girls, Britney Spears, etc, I have briefly looked over their song titles to see who wrote them. In most cases, someone else did.

With only a few rare exceptions (like Hansen), someone else writes the songs and other people play the instruments, they just sing it. Out of ALL the new kid bands, I've only ever seen Hansen play their instruments (and not very good at that).

Isn't Taylor Hansen a chick? Looks like one.

Anyway, I don't consider Backdoor Boys, N Sync, or countless others real bands because all they do is perform someone elses work. I can see once in a while someone else writing a song for them, but when 99% of your songs are not by you and you don't even play an instrument, you aren't a band.

The deal is, most of these new boy and girl bands who royally suck (pretty much all of them), once they grow up and these 10-15 year old girls mature a little more, they won't think Justin or Taylor or Britney is so cute anymore, then their popularity will die out, and thankfully we won't have to endure any more songs from them.

Remember New Kids? I haven't heard anything from them in over 10 years. Miracles do happen.

Just give it time. These boys bands have NO talent. It's just that these little teeny boppers think they are cute. They don't care about the music, regardless of what they say. And they sure as hell aren't a band. Notice you never see Backdoor Boys, N Sync, or the rest playing a guitar, keyboards, or anything else?

Hmmmmm now theres talent for ya. Someone else does all the work, they get the notariety. I like how that works.
