Subject: Actor Jack Lemmon Dies.

Written By: Skyclad on 6/28/2001 at 10:49 a.m.

Jack Lemmon, who has starred in coutless moives spanning many decades, including the '80's, died of complications due to cancer. 2 of my favorite movies of all time, although not released in the '80's were the Grumpy Old Men movies that starred Jack Lemmon and Walter Mattheau, who also recently died last July. Burgees Meredith also starred in the GOM movies, and recently died too. Odd. I loved the Grumpy Old Men movies, because it was like a coming of age movie, even though it was about 2 aging men. Them movies showed that just because you're old, it doesn't mean you can't have funany more. Jack was 76.

I got up and was listening to the local 80's station while getting ready for work and they announced this. I gotta admit, I got teary eyed. I also got this way when Walter Matthau, Burges Meredith, and George Burns died. All thats left is Bob Hope, and I think it is sad. These guys were true stars. Jack, we will miss you and your wonderful wit.

Yes, I heard this on the radio going to work this morning. I also loved the GOM movies, but several of his movies with Matthau were pretty good.

His death is in keeping with the "celebrity deaths come in 3's" thing - Carrol O'Connor and John Lee Hooker last week, Lemmon this week.

Wicked Lester: People keep forgetting that Imogene Coca, who was famous in her time from "Your Show Of Shows", died a week before Carroll O'Connor and John Lee Hooker. So this time, they went in fours.

My favorite Jack Lemmon movie was "Some Like It Hot" with Walter Matthau and Marylin Monroe. By any chance does the "Some Like It Hot" song by the Power Station have any connection with the movie?

>>>> Actually, Walter Matthau was not in Some Like it Hot. Jack Lemmon's co-star (along with Marilyn) was Tony Curtis. And, I would have to say that movie and Mister Roberts were my two fave Jack Lemmon movies..
