Subject: Does anyone remember "Night Flight" on USA?

Written By: Woodrow on 7/15/2001 at 7:47 p.m.

Or how to get copies of the show? It was a total entertainment mecca for pre/post teens..a precursor by at least 4-5 years of MTV's Liquid Television..it had cool videos (some were pretty naughty), cool music, cool animation, live interviews, live performances..you name it, it had it. It came on the early to mid '80's..I want to say somewhere between '83 - '85.

Night Flight was cool. USA Network used to run it.

I used to like catching "URGH! A Music War" when it was on. Their "New Wave Theatre" was also fun to watch (and it could get pretty wild for the time as well).

One thing that was interesting about "Night Flight" was that they played an odd mixture of acts: the heavy rockers like Led Zep, the outlaw stuff like Charlie Daniels Band, and the New Wave and Punk stuff.

It was kind like a music show for the rough types (the kids who smoked, wore jean jackets, and listened to metal, they were called "heads" in my school); the outcast nerds; and the New Wavers and Punks.

It wasn't middle of the road at all. That's what made it cool.

>>> Actually, I think it started earlier, like around 80 or 81. My favorite part of Night Flight was when they had a show called "New Wave Theatre" which was like a punk/new wave version of American Bandstand (they even had a rate-the-record segment)...And I loved the snippets from bad B-movies of the 40s and 50s and all the cool videos that they didnt show on MTV (Anyone remember Tony Power's video for the song "Dont Nobody Move, This is a Heist"?) Fortunately I saved many of these on tape, although the copies I have are now getting kind of fuzzy...

I remember "Night Flight". It aired on a local independent station. I liked the fact that they showed older and more obscure videos...but I couldn't stand that smart-a** Tom Juarez!

I watched Night Flight quite a bit, in fact I taped many episodes and although they are not in the greatest shape, I still have fun watching them. just watched one recently that had Echo and the Bunny men profile, Daniel Ash Profile, Led Zeppelin profile. This show was way cooler than MTV ! There is a website dedicated to Night Tracks, which was the competitor to Night Flight, check a search engine for it. I dont know where you can get good copies of the show however. steve
