Subject: 80's party ideas?

Written By: Alexia on 7/22/2001 at 2:42 p.m.

Hey - My husband and I are throwing an 80's party - we have a working atari 2600 which will be hooked up, lots of 80's music, twister, uno, and plenty of 80's movies... Just wanted to know if anyone had any other ideas. Thanks in advance!

Well, naturally you will have to have tons of great 80s music, which won't be hard to come by. You should also screen some totally awesome 80s movies: Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club would be great choices. You might want to decorate the house with some kitchsy pop culture items from the 80s: Rubik's cubes, cabbage patch dolls, etc. You can also play some games popular in the 80s, such as Trivial Pursuit, Pass the Pig, and Payday. If there's time, you might want to go to a tee shirt print shop and have some shirts made up with "Frankie Says Relax", "Choose Life" or "Feed The World" written in big black letters. Check the attic for old magazines from the 80s: Rollings Stones are great time capsules, and you can have them distributed around the house. Also, you can ask some trivia questions and give away token gifts. Might I suggest asking questions from my books, The Totally Awesome 80s Pop Music Trivia Book or The Totally Awesome 80s TV Trivia Book (which you can check out at the provided URL link). In terms of food to serve: any ol' Junk Food will work. You might want to serve some Capri Sun punch, which should bring back memories. I had an 80s party last year, and I had a picture of Nancy Reagan that we used as a dart board! Good luck on the party!

You're making me want to have an 80's party, too! I have seen lots of 80's records and posters at garage sales in the past little while. You could try to find things like that to decorate with.

Even if you can't find 80's records, make a mobile out of any old records. It looks really neat!
