I believe it was "Cover Up."

Yeah it was "Cover Up", which starred the late Jon-Erik Hexum who previously starred in one of my favorite TV shows as a kid, "Voyagers!". That was a cool time travel show, sadly it ran for only one year and hardly anyone remembers it.

Wow, "Voyagers" only ran for 1 year? Seems like it was at least 2. But, then again, I always seem to think the USFL lasted 5 years, so maybe the memory IS the first to go. >;-P

Yup that was it. "Voyagers!" only ran for one year, the 1982-'83 season, though it did get a decent run in rerun syndication in the rest of the '80s. Phineas Bogg crashed landed into 12 year old Jefferey Jones bedroom in 1982, Jeff's dog fought with Bogg and Bogg accidently knocked Jeff out of his high rise apartment, Bogg leaped out after Jeff and used his OMNI to save them both. Unfortunately the reason Bogg was put in 1982 was because of a malfunctioning OMNI, which wasn't supposed to go beyond 1970. Bogg also lost his Guidebook of history in Jeff's apartment in 1982. Fortunately for Bogg, Jeff was a history whiz and they traveled through time putting right what went wrong, all the while meeting famous historical figures. The show was cancelled because NBC stupidly put the series up against 60 Minutes on Sunday night.

Jon Erik-Hexum(Bogg) accidently killed himself on the set of "Cover-Up" in 1984, he took a gun loaed with blanks and said "Can you believe this shit?" and pulled the trigger as a joke. Unfortunately for Hexum, the blank inside discharged with enough force to crack his skull, he died of brain damage.
