Subject: The early 1990's...

Written By: GoGoGirl52 on 8/2/1999 at 8:18 p.m.

I've been on this big 80's kick for about 2 months, but here recently I've been reminiscing about the early 90s as well! Since there aren't any 1990s tribute sites on the net, I was wondering if there's anyone on here around my age (20) who has any fond 90s memories??

When I think of the 90s I think of: Friends, Blossom hats, Vanilla Ice, Paula Abdul, Mariah Carey, Twin Peaks, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, environmental awareness, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Clueless, thigh-highs, multi-colored nailpolish, sunflowers, lip smackers, body glitter, beanie babies, dinosaurs, bungee jumping, MC Hammer, cheesy cartoons (Captain Planet, Bucky O'Hare and the Toadwars), the fun, kiddie look being in style (ten years ago, no 20 year old would be caught dead wearing pigtails like I do!!) The Spice Girls (hey, I admit it! I'm a fan!), slap bracelets, dressy slacks with suspenders, dooc martins, Nirvana/Grunge being VERY popular, techno/electronica music, Deee-lite, Soho, C+C Music Factory, AMerica's Funniest Home Videos, Crystal Pepsi, Tab Clear cola (Anyone remember this?) The talking Taco Bell dog, Giga Pets, the internet, club kids, skechers, LA Gear, Furby's...those were the times!!!!

I have alot of fond memories of the 90's. This is the decade that I graduated from nursing school and got a "real" job, bought my first totally loaded brand new car, got married, and had two babies (and turned 30). The only thing that really happened to me in the 80's was that I graduated High School. I remember vividly the first time I heard "spin Doctors" on the radio and when Extreme's "Get the funk Out" and NIrvana's "smell's like teen spirit" was always on the "Top 9 at 9:00" every night.

OK I'm 34, and got married in 1990 at the age of 25. But my early 90's memories include 2 Live Krew singing Me So Horney; Michael Bivens and Bel Biv Devoe ;The New Kids on the Block did an outdoor concert in St. Paul MN and countless parents just dropped their young children and teen agers at it and just left their children there to dehydrate in the heat, many did not bother to pick their kids up afterwards & they had to be driven home by the police; Twin Peaks; Public Enemy singing Fight the Power; The Wayans Brothers on In Living Color; Rico Suave!; The Original Joel Robinson JOEL HODGESON on Mystery Science Theater 3000 ;

My very late 80's memories include Max Headroom and Hypercolor shirts.

Events I can think of right now are Vanilla Ice, In Living Color, the Milli Vanilli scandal, the debut of Boys II Men, can't think anymore, good-bye.

lol....fashion wise the early 90s was the worst...everyone was in that glamour80s to the nautural 90s stage and what a mess that was...trying to get natural looking hair but still having big bangs and not quite knowing the medium between the two (lol...i was just starting highschool around this time) and then the whole wearing t-shirts and jsut trying to be comfortable but shoulder pads seemed to be the thing around that time too (oh geeze i shudder thinking of some of the great outfits with that) and then of course there was the music....i know that music deteriorated in the 90s but some of it really wasnt all that bad in the beginning...i remember mchammer being huge, and vanilla ice (lol) nirvana, bel biv devoe, pearl jam, bon jovi was still doing pretty good in the early 90s i believe and then there was paula abdul (i remember her being very popular during the early 90s) and janet jackson was becoming more popular too (she had some fabulous stuff in teh early 90s) i loved the 80s and the 90s up till i graduated...it kinda went down hill from there..but at least the 90s gave us shows like "fresh prince of bel air" "seinfeld" and "friends" (yeah yeah i know lots of people hate that show and how popular its gotten, but you gotta admit its pretty dam funny especially when it first started) oh and "mad about you" was pretty fabulous too
