Subject: Epilady

Written By: Kathy, St. Paul, MN on 8/9/1999 at 1:15 p.m.

In the mid 80's I got all excited about hearing about the Epilady leg care system. I bought a new overpriced one as soon as they came out. It turned out to be yet another damn fool painful female-exerience things I could't wait to run right and do to myself. The box said that the first few times you use it to shave your legs will be "uncomfortable" or some other euphemism like that. Then after you get used to using it , subsequent useage will only take a few minutes and be painless. I probably endured 3 time consuming, painful, humiliating sessions before I figured out how badly I'd been duped. And even then I refused to wear a dress for weeks, as my legs looked like they had the chicken pox from all the in-grown hair. Did anyone else actually use it enough times that it became the quick, painless experience the box bragged about? Is there a woman on earth still using one? Oww!

My sister was also a victim of this torturous device. She even sent away for the "accessories", which consisted of a "hot pad" that would singe your legs to such a degree that you wouldn't really mind sharp coils yanking at your hair. There was also a special "soothing lotion" you could buy for about $20 an ounce. After all this, My sister was actually able to return it due to some special allowance that was made for this product. (Normally it would have been difficult to return since it was a personal hygene product)
