Subject: The truest words ever sung

Written By: Dave on 8/25/2001 at 12:19 p.m.

I heard John Cougar's(Mellancamp) song "Jack and Diane" this morning. In that song he sings what I believe to be the truest words ever sung..."Life goes on after the thrill of living is gone".

Springsteen's "The River" is pretty similar, although perhaps a little more depressing. Maybe it's the music.

I think Mellencamp's truest lyrics, from the same song, are "Hold on to 16 as long as you can, changes come around real soon, make us women and men."

What a great song! Boy, that one sure takes me back to my high school days. I agree with you, Lester, that those lyrics are so very true. Those changes came around WAY too fast! It's funny how as children we can't wait to be adults, but now that we're adults we wish we were teenagers again! Well, I should say some of us...probably not all.

You're right. I remember being 14 or 15 and asking my parents permission to do something, only to be told no, then sulking about it for half an hour muttering to myself "wait until I'm grown - nobody will tell me what to do". But it doesn't work that way. The older we get, the more people we have telling us what to do. LOL

And Karen, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone here wanted to be a teenager again for at least a day or two
