Subject: Whatever happened to Peter Tomarken??????

Written By: james martin on 8/31/2001 at 10:49 a.m.

O.K. I nn the wake of "Press Your Luck" premiere on the GSN, I was wondering does anyone knows whatever happened to this wild, unusual, talented, game show host? I know show lasted only 3yrs.(1983-86) then he disappeared without a trace. Can anyone find any info before tomorrow's premiere? or he probably wants to forget the show I don't know. Let's get to work.

Thanks for the link. I was previously unaware of Tomarken's stint on "GSN" in the mid '90s, as host of the channel's own "Decades" show. (Our cable co. didn't start carrying "GSN" until around 1998, which was about a year after he left.) I've always liked Tomarken as well, and thought he had so much potential (couldn't believe "PYL" was gone by '86 - I loved that show back in the day!); for some reason, he reminds me a bit of Casey Kasem...

Anyway, in the mid '90s I also recall seeing Tomarken as the host of some sort of show (possibly an infomercial??? - it wasn't mentioned in the link you provided), which ran in the early-morning hours. When I first saw it, I just remember thinking, "Geez, where's this guy been for the last 8-10 years?!?" That late-night program has been the only time I've seen or heard of him since the late '80s...

BTW, I did catch the premiere of "PYL" on "GSN" earlier today. Curiously, "GSN" didn't start w/ the debut episode of the show, like I thought they probably would. Nevertheless, it's still great to have it back...

Thanks for answering my response. I think they'll only(my opinion) show the best episodes on the show. So far, I've seen the same episode twice today; now, will they show the same ones tonight because I want to get an idea on taping the show. I know they WON'T show the 1983 incident & you know what I'm talking about. I'm wondering if Peter was watching the show or wants nothing to do the show @ all. I also wonder does he have grey hair? LOL

Nah, I doubt that "GSN" is "cherry-picking" the best "PYL" episodes; I know w/ "Match Game", they've pretty much aired everything...

I take it you're referring to the contestant who figured out the pattern, and took them for thousands of $$$??? I don't see why not - perhaps they'll save it for a special "PYL" marathon of the best episodes, similar to what "GSN" has already done for "Match Game" and "Family Feud" in the recent past...

: I'm wondering if

I don't know what he'd have to be ashamed of - the show has been in pretty high demand for several years now. I think the reason it took so long for it to make it onto "GSN" had something to do w/ obtaining the rights - "USA" was re-airing the old episodes in the early to mid '90s, and they may have still had a lock on "PYL" until this year...

GSN might not air them because USA never did in 9 years, but maybe (I hope) GSN will show them.
