Subject: Are teenagers really the ones who create Fashions?

Written By: Silent Bob on 9/1/2001 at 4:21 p.m.

So everything we wear is because of teenagers? I don't think so. The truth is, I don't think teenagers have anything significant to do with fashion and music(in terms of actually making music). Most of the fashions and music are made by us 20 somethings it would seem. With the exception of a few older teens like Britney Spears, Destiny's Child and the like, most teenagers don't actually "make" music.

Do they "create" our fashions? I doubt it. This means everyone else simply wears things because teens bring it into style? In the '80s you had adults wearing white jackets and shoes with no socks. They were listening to the teens? In the '90s you had adults wearing plaid and wide bell bottoms. Because of teens?

I think we give teenagers far to much credit for "creating" fashion and music. They themselves think they are the ones in charge of it all themselves too. I know I used to think that way. But the truth is, very few teens actually are "making" music or "creating" fashions that aren't fashions some fringe group wears, i.e. the grunge of the '90s, or the punk of the '80s.

This is really interesting, but i've never knew that teenagers actually think THEY make fashion or music. i believe that every age group has their own sense of "style"...but as far as britney or something, there are wardrobers who create her look, it really isn't her, she's no designer to say the least. people who are inspired by looks, are usually inspired by people older than them...but people like Madonna and they Beastie Boys had their own look that people copied and they were only 15, or 17...so THEY WERE teens.

Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing the stuff teenagers wear today. Any fashion trend teens establish is usually confined to their own age group.
