How do you do that?I have a small list of songs that I have been searching to find to add to my albums.I am left with about 9 songs that are still a mystery to me.Can you help me with this one?I am not sure of the year or artist and I am only guessing at the title.Early 80s possibly late 70s male singer,"you angel you"I always thought it was Bob Welsh but I have never been able to find it on any album cover.Help.....Thanks for the Danny Spanos info and sound clip.

Okay, last favor. Wicked Lester is half right - right song, wrong artist. It's true that the New Riders of the Purple Sage recorded a version of the Bob Dylan song "You Angel You" in 1974, but that is not the hit version from the late '70s you're looking for...

The version of Dylan's "You Angel You" that you want is by Manfred Mann's Earth Band, which was a moderate hit here in the U.S. in the Summer of '79. It was off the group's 1979 album, "Angel Station". Unfortunately, the album is long out-of-print, and has never been re-issued on CD here in the U.S. (It is currently available on CD as an import, however.)

Dylan himself originally recorded the song on his 1974 album, "Planet Waves". It was not a hit for the former Mr. Zimmerman, though...

Subject: Speaking Of Which...

Various thoughts came to mind when I read this post. You mentioned Bob Welch. He did the song "Sentimental Lady", but for the longest time I thought it was The Alan Parsons Project. He sounds just like the A.P.P., thus my confusion. (Whatever happened to ol' Bob anyway?) Manfred Mann had a hit in the 80s called "Runner", but for some reason you never seem to hear that song today. Quite surprising, since it was recorded for the Olympic Games and became a big hit. And for those of you who think Manfred Mann is saying "deuce" in his version of "Blinded By The Light", listen closely. There is a very definite "sh" sound at the end of the word. Ain't no way he's saying "deuce"! By the way, what the heck is that song about? It makes absolutely no sense! It's just a bunch of nonsensical sentences! And the one line that does make sense talks about an adolescent pumping away in his hat! How did THAT line ever make it to the radio???????????

Always loved Bob Welch's "Sentimental Lady" from the first time I heard it. One of my all-time faves, actually. Although it was a hit in the Winter of '78, it wasn't until the mid '80s that I learned who the artist was. I suppose his voice does bear a slight resemblance to lead singer Eric Woolfson of the APP...

"Runner" also ranks as one of my all-time faves; a forgotten classic, IMO. Only had to hear it once back in '84, and I immediately ran out and bought the group's album, "Somewhere in Afrika". Actually, it was only a moderate hit here in the U.S. - should've done a lot better...

A very good example of why I've always felt that Mr. Springsteen is a bit over-rated...

Now that I think about it, Bob Welch does sound quite a bit like Eric Woolfson of The Alan Parsons Project, but their styles are definitely different. I remember hearing "Sentimental Lady" at the time it hit the charts and always thought it was a pretty song.

Gosh, I haven't heard this song in AGES! Maybe it's time to see if I can find it online and download it!

I don't know if I'd say he's over-rated. His lyrics are bit bizarre but the accompanying music is awesome!
