Subject: A little diversion please!!!!!!!!

Written By: Dave on 9/13/2001 at 8:08 p.m.

At the risk of sounding insensitive, I have to say that I am sick and tired of turning on the T.V. or radio, hearing and seeing nothing but live coverage of the terrorist attack. Like everyone else, my heart goes out to those who knew victims of this attack, but it is time to stop the endless news coverage on all three major networks, time to play major league baseball, and NFL football not to mention NASCAR. If we do not start getting life back to normal, the terrorists will have suceeded in destroying the fabric of American life. The networks have a ghoulish fascination with disasters. They are still live when the only things to see now are the injured and dead emerging from the rubble. Enough is enough. Let's all turn off the T.V. and rent a movie tonight.

I agree that we all need a little happiness and some smiles in our life, but, realistically, this is going to take much longer than four days to get over. We each deal with grief and mourn in our own private and personal ways. Myself, from experiences with personal loss in the past, usually take several weeks before I feel that I am returning to some normalcy. In this instance, however, any personal loss that I have experienced in the past has been magnified by several thousand times. I also implore everyone reading this post to prepare themselves for the dark days ahead. As unimaginable as the events of the past few days have been, I fear that an event even more unimaginable is just on the horizon. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone. We will smile again, and we will survive this, somehow, someway...

I do agree that personal losses take much time to heal, but this is not a personal loss to most of us. Most of us did not know any of the victims. For those who did, things will never be the same again. However, the rest of us need to get on with our lives and let the terrorists know that they cannot stop the American way of life. How long are we going to wallow in self-pity?

look dave, this is a HUGE thing, i really don't think you are truly grasping thw situation here. i live in australia, which is on the other side of the world from the american tragedy,
we are still feeling it. all the news coverage has nothing to do with our "fascination with disaster" it has to do with humanity. we want to know how these people are doing, we want to knwo how the investigation is coming along. when something of this magnitude happens, you cant just get over it in a day or two. and if you are so sick of this tragedy, watch a different channel or rent a movie or something. but dont be degrading this tragedy because your own personal entertainment is suffering from it.

I do agree with you that this is a huge thing. No doubt about that. As an American; however, I think it's time for those of us that do not have personal ties to the tragedy to get a little relief from it. We've got to get on with our lives sometime!!!!! If we continue to wallow in self-pity, then the terrorists have won! The longer it takes Americans to get back to the American way of life, the greater the loss for our nation and its people.

this is one of the few times in history where all the new yorkers are coming together in peace, they're all trying to help each other instead of fighting. by showing this to the americans, it should offer inspiration, i know it does to a lot of people in australia.

"wallow in self-pity"?!

Not only have you proven yourself ignorant, but shallow as well.

Look, you should definitely watch how you word things, especially in this Ever-So-Sensitive subject.

No one has wallowed in self pity. Hello!!!
What's wrong with you?
Look-up the definitions of the words you chose to use in your statement. Choose words a little more carefully next time.

Subject: a gal and her soapbox

Written By: langdon hughes on 9/15/2001 at 2:20 p.m.

I've tried to keep my mouth shut...
Dave. Dave, Dave, Dave. "Those of us who don't have personal connections?" If anything else this catastrophe is teaching us we ALL have personal connections as members of a community and of the human race in general. To feel an emotion is to have a personal connection. And for those of us who already have names we are mourning, we need to know there is strength to be gained from those experiencing this empathetically. Pain doesn't just shut off or get confined to a certain group of the populace.
And, Dave, as the names of the thousands dead come out, I would bet you quite a bit of money if you don't recognize some of them, someone you love will. I don't wish that on you, but I'll be surprised if it's not true.
I'm stepping off now. Thanks.

Well said, lang. I don't know anyone personally who was killed, but it touches us all. I don't know anyone, but I know someone who knew someone, and there's a friend of my sister whose husband was on the plane that hit the Pentagon. So that's two lives that I have at least a passing connection with that have been forever changed by this. And isn't Marci's husband in the military? You think the repercussions won't affect her?

To paraphrase JFK, at a time like this the appropriate phrase to use is "Ich bin ein New Yorker".

Subject: The Battle Ahead

Written By: MDC on 9/15/2001 at 8:57 p.m.

I am posting this for everyone here that is suffering through this. For those who feel we should be talking about something else here, please just move on to something else. I have written the following editorial for my local newspaper.

The Battle Ahead
The Battle Ahead

As the events of the past week take their place in history, the world is at the precipice of a new and un-chartered frontier. From the grief and astonishment of the sights we have witnessed, now comes a feeling of resolve and strength as we have never known before. The battle lines have now been drawn. There are only two camps: Good versus Evil. There is no middle ground, no gray area. Every citizen of the world now will be forced to make a decision as to which side they are on. You are on one side or the other, period. Declarations are already pouring in from around the globe. I am no theologian; until Tuesday, I never considered myself a deeply religious person. The events of the past week have changed me in ways both grand and small, and I suddenly see things with more clarity than ever before. I firmly believe that the great final battle prophesized in the bible, about which the world has speculated so endlessly over the past few decades, has arrived. I believe that the anti-Christ has shown his face to the world and he now has a name. I, personally, do not feel hatred or fear, as I have found comfort in knowing that good will overcome evil as it has done all over the world since the dawn of humanity. The fight has just begun, and there are countless battles ahead. There will be more casualties to come, more days of grief and sadness and loss. The unimaginable has come to pass, and, I believe, an event even more unimaginable is just on the horizon. Don’t be frightened, but rather be prepared. Make peace with yourself , your family and with your faith. Everywhere in this great nation, I see the determination to endure in the faces of the people I meet. I hear it in their voices, joining a heavenly chorus that echoes throughout the world, that we will not be defeated. I see it in people’s actions, their desire to help each other out in any way possible. The Lion has been awakened from a deep sleep, and is prepared to roar so loudly, the world will tremble at its very depths. The righteous need not fear. We will unite as never before, and what needs to be done to eliminate the Evil that is now on our front door will be accomplished. We have been forced to view the planet in an entirely different way. We now have the power and resolve to shape the future and to make the world a safe place for our children. We shall overcome…
