Subject: lost loves

Written By: langdon hughes on 9/26/2001 at 1:34 p.m.

You know, we've been through music, movies, clothes, but right now I need some serious dish. A little love in the house. C'mon, tell me about the one in the eighties that got away...

I had a couple.
Mike was the king of skinny ties, always in a cardigan and DJ'd at a club downtown. Tiny and Greek. Between the two of us we had enough sarcasm to run the whole school. One moment of emotional intimacy was enough to make each of us run screaming in opposite directions.

Then there was Sean. He wore skirts and eyeliner. Lots of black. Went to jail for blowing up a meth lab.

Anyone?

Well it's really not much fun for me to talk about lost loves...for every guy I ever went after ran the other way! And then one day a nice guy came along right about the time I was ready to give up on trying. He was so nervous...gave me a peck on the cheek and quickly returned to his car. It was refreshing to see someone of the opposite sex more nervous than I was! That nice guy is my wonderful husband!!!

Torn between two young women back in 1987. I won't get into naming names, but one has passed away and the other has pestered me so much over the years that I am no longer interested in her.

I don't really like to go into detail about such issues, but, suffice to say, I let the music explain it all...

The One You Love by Glenn Frey
Promises, Promises by Naked Eyes
See You by Depeche Mode
Nobody's Diary by Yaz
Never, Never by The Assembly
No Words by Clan Of Xymox
New Year's Day by U2
Suddenly Last Summer by The Motels

Oscar Wilde once stated that thousands of poets who wrote about love had killed the idea of it, but I digress - he must have said it in the spirit of sarcasm...

There was this girl named Stacy... she had the prettiest sky blue eyes, and chestnut hair with little ringlets at her temples. It was love at first sight, until we actually started dating. No two personalities ever clashed more!! Anyhow, she's some bigshot with Worldcom now, so I am told. Bummer... I could have married rich. lol
