Subject: Benji the Movie Dog

Written By: Debi Giesler on 9/1/1999 at 12:50 p.m.

Could someone please tell me what kind of terrier Benji is? I have one identical to him/her and my daughter is making my dog (Scruffy) the topic of a science project. All the terriers I find don't look like mine. Hope someone out there knows. Thank you.

All I know is that Benji is a Heinz 57. That's right, he's a plain, ordinary mutt. The dog's original name was Higgins and played the dog on "Petticoat Junction." He acquired the name Benji after playing the title role in that movie. However, at the time, he was getting old and was mated with a female that looked like him. And of the offspring, the one that looked most like him was a female. They named her Benji and became his successor.
