Subject: Hall & Oates

How could Kiss On My List be an "anti-love" song? There are lyrics in there like "Your kiss ,I can't resist" , "Your kiss is what I miss when I turn out the light", etc. The song, in my opinion, is very cryptic. How so? Well, let's start out with the whole "smile when I lie" thing. What's he lying about? Then he says"I really miss you, Girl.". That doesn't sound like a line from an "anti-love" song. Why can he not resist her kiss if he hates her? It's so cryptic, at least to me. Is he telling them that he'll tell them why he smiles when he lies or why he likes the girl? I think he's probably tellin them why the girl's kiss is on his list, but I'm not quite sure. .

Thank you, Katie, for delving into this personal quest of mine. I heard this "anti love song" nonsense from them years ago in an interview and then again recently on a web site and I've never been able to make sense of it. The lyrics are certainly not, anti-love, and I'm still waiting for someone to reveal to me how they could be...and all anyone can seem to muster is "well, fans don't always interpret songs the way the artists intended them." True enough, but no kind of analysis.
