Subject: 80's CD compilations -- Anybody got 'Pop & Wav

Written By: Jim on 9/18/1999 at 7:59 a.m.

I finally took the plunge and bought this 8-volumes-2-CDs-each set and I was wondering if anyone else has it. I'm curious what you think about this compilation...I've heard some really good things about it from doing deja searches. My 80s music collection is getting near the saturation point for songs everyone has heard and I was looking for a collection that had some popular songs I didn't have but also expose me to a lot of stuff I didn't hear in the 80's. This compilation set seems to fit the bill.

This is a fairly hard-to-find set now, I only found a few places on the 'net that sell it. It's pricey at ~$40 per 2-disc set, but I found a place that sells them for $30 per 2-disc set. Now I just have to wait 2-8 weeks for it to arrive! Incidentally, it seems this set was released in Germany (originally) and also England. The German release is cheaper than the British release on the sites I searched. Man, if I ever take a trip to Germany I am going to STOCK UP on 80's compilation CDs!

For those into 80's compilations, there is a new Time Life compilation that is not on their website yet that may be of interest to some people here. The collection is called 'Modern Rock' and is advertised as 80's music 'with an edge'. So far I've received 3 volumes of 2-CD sets and I am very pleased with it (well, the '86-'87 discs are a bit iffy, but the rest is really good). A friend of mine has the entire Time Life Sounds of the Eighties collection but that has far too much fluff (read: pure pop music) for my taste. The Modern Rock collection has a lot more of what you remember the 80's for.

Thanks for the info! I also have a lot of Time-Life compilations and am always looking for more good sets to get. I'm going to keep an eye out for this new one you're talking about.
