Subject: Must See TV

Just saw the first episode of "Freaks and Geeks" on NBC & all I can say is (in the words of our generation) AWESOME. The show truly is high school in the 80's and the characters are totally believable. If you missed it start programming your VCR's. I personally would like to see it moved to either Sunday or some other night .Definitely think it would be lost to its target audience if they left it on Saturday or put it on a Friday.

Music is awesome too and hopefully people outside our age group will see that life in high school doesn't have to be that serious-even though it seemed so at the time. Comments???? Spread the word about this "Wonder Years" for the thirtysomething generation......

yeah, i was sick last nite so i happened to stay at home, and i was glad that i did so i could see that show. it is so much better than all the other teen shows, it seemed to actually be about REAL people, and problems with teenage life, not just sex and popularity like the other teenage programs. they totally should move it to a different nite though, because i would love to watch it every week, but im usually out on saturdays, especially at 8:00. maybe they assume that because its about geeks and freaks the only people who will watch it are losers who have no life so will be home on saturday nites having nothing better to do.

yeah, I think the time slot is DREADFUL, totally a waste of a good show.. it's a great show though, and it has been getting good reviews, so maybe it will be able to build some word of mouth.. it's weird to see a show start right at the start of a decade like that (fall 1980) usually it seems like they want to start something in the middle...

at least they're not hitting you over the head with references you would only get if you were around at the time (and snickering at them) I liked the little touches too like the Carter/Mondale poster on the guidence counselor's office wall.. and the counselor himself.. burnt out hippie counselors seemed to be the standard in high schools everywhere I think, and he looks sooo out of place, it's quite dead on...

and can I now admit I was the Star Wars/Star Trek geek like the ones pictured on the show? though I don't really remember too many bullies at the high school level.. grade school yes.. maybe I just came from a small school (150 in my class) or I was too good at blending in...

liked the show too! just two things that kinda stuck out. in my freshman year, you were gonna get tormented by the seniors not someone in your own class. second, i guess each part of the country did there own thing at dances, but usually there was a slow dance corner where everyone danced and you had your arms around the other person, not extended, and just kinda circled.

Despite a lousy time slot, it won in the ratings game, beating out the competitors and giving one of the best ratings NBC has seen on a Saturday in several years. If the numbers hold for a week or two, it'll probably get picked up for another season! Finally a good series that won't fade away quicker than "Square Pegs"
