Subject: Steve Kilbey in Jail!?

I attended the CHURCH concert last night at the Bowery in NYC and Steve Kilbey was missing! The word was that he had been arrested. What is going on???

ARE YOU SERIOUS? Sorry to shout, but this is a shocker. So, how was the concert? Did Marty take over the vocal duties or what? I'm surprised that they'd still go on without Steve Kilbey. This is just wild speculation, but knowing the group's fondness for the weed, maybe he was arrested on drugs possession.

OK, I got the low-down from the Church's Unofficial website: www.tristesse.com

Steve was arrested trying to buy 3 small packets of heroin in New York's Alphabet City. He will have to serve one day of community service (cleaning the A-train -- no, I'm not joking) after which his record will be wiped clean, since it's his first offense. Incidentally, Steve's girlfriend Natalie is expecting the birth of their twin daughters any moment now, if she hasn't delivered already.

Nice investigation! Troubling story...

In reply to your reply: Marty saved the night by playing a few acoustic, solo pieces on a beautiful 12 string. His voice was superb and his energy was good. He paused after three or four songs to try to convince the rest of the band to join him. I guess they were in fact relunctant to play. Ward from Morbid Angel (!) picked up the basic bass lines and together they played for while, but not without taking a break in the middle and leaving Marty to carry the show once again. To tell the truth, I would have prefered (under the highly unusual circumstances) to have had Marty take it on himself the entire night. He was that good!

Cheers!
