I'm new to this BBS, but I saw the question about technology and I had some ideas. I immediately thought of the boombox. After some thinking I thought about the VCR and the microwave although I wouldn't be surprised if those already existed before the 80's but didn't become popular until the 80's. Then of course there is the Clapper remembered in jokes on many sitcoms. On the more important side, computer technology changed dramatically with mouses and icons on the screen (as well as many other computer advances that I don't know about). Also in the military there was first flights of stealth bombers and fighters and the development of "Star Wars" defence systems ideas that although never put in place the technology was used to make the Patriot missiles that were used in Desert Storm. The military also developed the Global Positioning System at that time.
