Subject: New Chat Room

Sorry, Chucky, but I don't like the new chat room at all!!! I found it very confusing, difficult to get into, and nobody responding to me AT ALL. I liked your other chat room much better, even though the response was slow to get in. But at least it wasn't confusing.

the sign up thing is a little intimidating I know.. but if you saw the other chat servers I just checked out, you'd know that besides the one I get from my web host, most of them flat out suck. I could probably write one from scratch that does the same thing they do.. just a simple script with a refresh command.. I bet I could write something like that in 20 minutes.. I just might try my hand at it anyways.. it would be like a small messageboard where the old messages stay until they cycle out..

if anyone has seen a GOOD chat room that is fairly browser independent that you've used or liked, let me know.. I'm going to try and give the old one another go, but I'm not holding my breath...

Thanks for responding. I think you should try doing one yourself! It's got to be better than the one you just put in... Or try the old one again. Lately I had noticed that it was starting to respond faster than it had been before. Maybe it just takes a little time then it will run smoothly...?

well, I thought about it after I wrote that, and I think my webhost would kick my ass off their service for running their servers into the ground.. basically everyone reading the chat room at any given moment would have to reload the page every minute (their browser would do it automatically for them, real easy to code) but work that out to ten people, over the course of an hour and you have 600 fairly large pages to retreive.. ugh! too much traffic in one day.. which is why I've gone back to their server for now..

I noticed it's working fine right now.. maybe it only works during daylight hours or something...

I'm sure if we all start showing up around the same time for a few weeks it will start to take off... of course, it needs to run a little more reliably than it has..

I see the old chat room is indeed back up again, and I noticed you just posted here minutes ago, Missy. I've checked in there a few times now in the last few minutes, but haven't seen you. :-( Maybe next time...

Hi there, 80smusicfreak! Thanks for your post. I think we have to coordinate a time to chat again, as we seem to keep missing each other (and when there are 24 hours in the day, that's easy to do). Since Chucky had changed the chat room, I didn't want to go in there, but now that the old one is back up I think I will again. When is the best time for you to chat?
