Subject: ORIGINAL 'Nervous Night' recording by the Hooters

Written By: Jim on 11/4/1999 at 7:39 a.m.

Does anyone know where/if I can get the original recording of this on CD? The Hooters first released this album that had pretty raw versions of at least some of the songs, notably 'All You Zombies' and 'Hangin' On A Heartbeat' and I liked these versions much better than the re-produced versions. Essentially what happened was they got very popular and the re-released the album with (over)produced versions of a lot of their songs. I fully expect only someone from Philadelphia might know what I'm talking about, since that is where the band originates.

An old friend of mine had the original LP...I was wondering if that version is available on CD. I think this would be a rare find if it exists. Anyone know where I might be able to find something like this?

Please post to this board or email me if you can point me somewhere...thanks!

The debut album by The Hooters that you're referring to was titled "Amore" (*not* "Nervous Night"!), and was released on the indie Antenna label in 1984. "Amore" did so well locally, that the band was picked up by Columbia/CBS (i.e., a major), which then issued "Nervous Night" on their label in the Spring of '85. (Yes, they had the band re-record several songs from "Amore", inc. "All You Zombies", which were then carried over to the "Nervous Night" album). Unfortunately, "Amore" was issued on vinyl LP and cassette only; to this day, it has never been re-issued on CD here in the U.S. No, I'm not from the Philly area, but I always thought The Hooters' story was well-known in hard-core '80s music circles, LOL! And yes, I do still occasionally see used copies of "Amore" on both vinyl & cassette in my record-store travels here in the NE...

You are very right about that! I completely forgot about 'Amore'. Interestingly the title song from that LP did not make it onto 'Nervous Night'. I think the early takes of 'All You Zombies' and 'Hangin' On A Heartbeat' on Amore are actually considered demos. Well, sounds like I'll be looking for some vinyl..haven't done that for 10 years now.

Thanks!
