Subject: Music Trivia Quiz

Written By: Karen M. on 11/26/1999 at 3:31 a.m.

Well since I enjoyed Aj's trivia quiz so much I thought I'd try to make one myself. So here it is if anyone's interested. There are 10 questions and ALL of them pertain to the 80's!!!

1) What singer/songwriter/producer had a hit in the early 80's with the song "Him"?

2) What was Cars bassist Benjamin Orr's only solo hit?

3) What early 80's song was inspired by David Bowie's hit "Space Oddity"?

4) What popular group adopted their name from Arthur Janev's book Prisoners Of Pain?

5) What British supergroup was made up of former members of Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer, the Buggles and King Crimson? Bonus: What was their highest charting single?

6) What R&B group was Jody Watley in before going solo?

7) Who sang "I Know There's Something Going On" and what popular 70's group was she in?

8) What actress is the band Toto referring to in their song "Rosanna"?

9) What pop megastar sang the chorus in Rockwell's hit "Somebody's Watching Me"?

10) What singer/actor was born William Broad in Middlesex, England in 1955?

That's it. Answer as many as you can and I will post the answers in a few days.

Good Luck! Karen

A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO PLAYED! HERE ARE THE ANSWERS...MOST OF YOUR RESPONSES WERE CORRECT AND ONLY TWO QUESTIONS WEREN'T ANSWERED AT ALL. HERE ARE ALL THE CORRECT ANSWERS:

> 1) What singer/songwriter/producer had a hit in the early 80's with the
> song "Him"?

Yes, it was Rupert Holmes: writer and singer of the popular song "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)", which reached #1 in 1979

> 2) What was Cars bassist Benjamin Orr's only solo hit?

Wow, nobody got this! Nobody remembers hearing "Stay The Night" in 1988? (not to be confused with Chicago's song of the same name)

> 3) What early 80's song was inspired by David Bowie's hit "Space
> Oddity"?

Yes it was "Major Tom (Coming Home)", by Peter Schilling. This is a song that people frequently ask about on this messageboard.

> 4) What popular group adopted their name from Arthur Janev's book
> Prisoners Of Pain?

Nobody go this one either...and I thought more would have. It's the band Tears For Fears!

> 5) What British supergroup was made up of former members of Yes, Emerson
> Lake & Palmer, the Buggles and King Crimson? Bonus: What was their
> highest charting single?

I think everyone got this one...yes it was indeed Asia, one of the great talents of the 80's who sadly disbanded too early.

> 6) What R&B group was Jody Watley in before going solo?

A couple of you knew this one...it was Shalamar, who were popular in the early 80's with hits like "Second Time Around" and "Dancing In The Sheets".

> 7) Who sang "I Know There's Something Going On" and what popular
> 70's group was she in?

I was surprised that most of you knew this one...yes it was Frida, from the group ABBA.

> 8) What actress is the band Toto referring to in their song
> "Rosanna"?

This song does refer to Rosanna Arquette (Desperately Seeking Susan)...one of the band members was dating her at the time. This is one of my favorite trivia questions to use on people.

> 9) What pop megastar sang the chorus in Rockwell's hit "Somebody's
> Watching Me"?

Yes, Michael Jackson sang background vocals on this one!

> 10) What singer/actor was born William Broad in Middlesex, England in
> 1955?

Yes, Billy Idol is the right answer here.

I must be showing my alzheimer's - I can only answer the last 5! (Shalimar/Frida from ABBA/Rosanna Arquette/Michael Jackson/Billy Idol...I think!)

> Speaking of "Rosanna", is it my imagination, or does the lead singer of Toto call her a "lezie" in the song? Every since I first heard the song in '82, I've sworn that I can hear it right after the phrase "Been 20 years since she went away (a lezie)"

I doubt Steve Lukather or Bobby Kimball who sang ROSANNA said that, but I know what you mean, its very hard to tell on many singers!
