Subject: WHY THE 90'S

Written By: kevin on 12/1/1999 at 9:52 p.m.

I can't speak for every one, but I think its the same for a lot of us. I was born in the 60's, so my memory of growing up was in the 70's and 80's. Mostly the 80's because of my age. I look back now and see that we have become our parents!! Sitting in our rooms listening to a/c d/c, kiss, BTO, boston ect. and my parents saying what kind of crap is that!! I laugh now when I hear the music my children listen to. limp biscuit? But I will admit there have been good memorys in the 90's also. For me though, the 80's were the greatest of years!! I was old enough to party and young enough to enjoy it!! I met my wife in the 80's, had our first child in the 80's. Yes I have a great life in the 90's but it all started in the 80's!! So those of you who like, go ahead and start your 90's page, I'll still come here and enjoy the 80's!

I grew up in the 80s also. I will have to say it was a trully awesome decade. The music, television, movies, fashion were the greatest. I was your usual prep who enjoyed MTV, Silver Spoons, and Sixteen Candles. But I will have to say I have enjoyed the 90s as well. Dressing in Tommy Hilfiger and Boss clothes and listening to Celine Dion, Reba McEntire, and Mariah Carey. There is always something possitive about every era! Thanks for letting me get my 2 cents worth in!

First of all, I don't "favor" one decade over the other; I am 20 years old, and I spent my childhood in the wonderful 80s, and I absolutely LOVE everything about the decade (that is like, why I am a registered visitor to InThe80s.com, DUH!!)In the 90s, i was experiencing junior high and high school, and that was a wonderful time for me as well!! Why can't I enjoy both aspects of my life? I swear, if you even so much mention you enjoyed the 90s on an 80s page, you get shot down and scorched like it's a horrible crime! Since there ARE no 90s sites out there yet, I figured why not start one next year? Even if its just the early 90s, it's been a long, long time! I guess seeing MC Hammer on MTV the other night triggered my nostalgic early 90s memories... Anyway, I will always visit this page, and all other ones like it. Let me enjoy both worlds!

Calm down!! I too enjoy SOME 90s (VERY little), and have no problem with others who love the 90s. Whatever floats your boat... HOWEVER, this is an 80S WEBPAGE, and should be used to discuss 80s, NOT 90s. There are plenty of websites for that, OK? Let's keep this one 80s.

If i insulted you I am very soory! That is not what i was trying to do. My point is that most of us who favor the 80's as opposed to the 90's are in our 30's. as most who are late teens or 20's will remember the 90's as the best part of their lives. there is nothing wrong with that at all, and I did not mean to imply that. And I hope you continue with your comments about the 90's becouse I do enjoy them all!!

I knew you weren't insulting me; I was just stating how I feel about everything in general. I understand what you're saying. What I was referring to were the people who just bash the decade, and in particular make websites about how much they hate it! (I'm sorry, but personally I believe people who feel that way are simply not happy with their own lives, so they blame it all on pop culture, politics, the president, etc. I mean sure, Bill Clinton was part of the biggest scandal of the century, but hey, didn't you love making fun of it? How many people turned on their tv sets late at night to watch Leno poke fun about it ;)?? Also, another thing that bothers me about "90s bashing" is the fact that people say it's the most violent decade, and it's the decade with the most death rates, etc. Hell-o? Violence unfortunately has been around since Cain killed Abel, and will be around till apocolypse. The school shootings?? that was only within the last 2 years, not the whole decade! Look at the 1940s...WWII and the nazis were destroying innocent lives and in the 60s and 70s there was Vietnam, riots, and other acts of violence to gruesome to even comprehend. I believe what everyone's problem is that they are looking back over the last 2 years, instead of the last TEN years; the nineties began in 1990, and will soon be over in a month...Lets all enjoy the last drop of it before we embrace the 2000s!!

Peace, Lori
