in 1985 bruce springsteen had a top hit with santa claus is coming to town. only one other act has had a uk top 40 hit with this song who was it.please respond imm. thanks would appreciate it.

Springsteen took "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" to #9 on the U.K. charts at the end of 1985, making his version the most popular. Two other acts had already charted previously in the U.K. w/ the same song: At the end of 1972, it had been a #43 hit for the Jackson 5, and three years later, The Carpenters took it to #37 at the end of 1975. In this case, it could be argued that the version by the Jackson 5 was actually the bigger hit of those first two, despite the actual chart positions (#43 vs. #37), but if you're gonna split hairs, then your answer is The Carpenters. Note that all three acts to chart in the U.K. w/ this song were, in fact, American...

The only other act I can think of off the top of my head is The Pointer Sisters. This version can be found on "A Very Special Christmas" from 1987.
