Subject: Was "Freaks and Geeks" On?

Written By: freaksandgeeks!!! on 1/12/2000 at 1:26 p.m.

Monday night I flicked on the TV and VCR just before 8:00 in anticipation of seeing the Freaks and Geeks for the first time since it had been preempted over a month and a half ago by James Bond and Home Alone . . . I couldn't wait . . .

But I did wait . . . I waited all night . . . and it never came on . . .

What happened?

I'm not going to fault St.Jude's Hospital. They do a great service and are very giving, so I don't really care if my show got canceled so they could run their spot.

However, a couple of days before, NBC ran their F&G spot saying it would be on Monday. Then, before the show was to air, nothing was mentioned about it's being prempted. The St. Jude spot just appeared. Nothing before or after said that F&G would return the following week.

What concerns me is that F&G seems to get prempted every time it comes back. It was out due to baseball for almost a month, then it got two weeks on the air and they bumped it for Bond and Home Alone. Then, on the night it was to come back, it got bumped again (albeit for a good cause this time).

Since NBC said nothing on Monday night, is F&G going to be back next week? Are we going go see F&G history and get to see three weeks of episodes without the show being prempted?

I really hope they aren't trying to kill the show.

Again, I think St. Jude's Hospital is a great institution, and I don't mind my show not being on for their sake. It's just that it happened on the night the show was to returnm, and that gets me to thinking that NBC might be trying to kill off the show. I hope I'm wrong, but it seems to fit the pattern they have set for this show from the beginning.

Subject: Was "Freaks and Geeks" On? On the 17th,

The show was most definitely on last night (January 17) so if you saw something else on your local NBC station, it is they who are to blame for bumping it with some crap like those St. Jude programs. I checked to make sure it was on but I didn't watch it. I went to school in the '70's so it wouldn't interest me.

well, it's 1980, so it's just barely 1980.. so if you went to school in the 70s, it's not too far removed.. the soundtrack actually uses a lot of mid 70s stuff in addition to the 80s.. even some of the fashions are clearly left over.. just like 1980 when you think of it... not that anyone is sporting butterfly colors or anything...

even getting past the nostalgia angle, it's a nice change of pace to see a show dealing with kids that's not a sitcom, or overly preachy drama... the only characters that try to be preachy come off looking pretty funny (like the hippie guidance counselor for instance)
