Subject: I have a question...

I want to know something; Did anyone out there actually record songs off the radio back in the 80s, and still have them on tape somewhere?? I think stuff like that is so cool! It's pretty much listening to the past! I did that all through-out the 90s, because I knew someday I'd want to look back, so I wondered if anyone did that back in the 80s?? Just curious, Lori

I used to tape Casey Kasem's Weekly Top 40, especially the year-end special. I wish I still had those tapes....

Of course, didn't everyone. I still have a mix of some of my favorites that I play in my car. My daughter (5 years old) loves the songs, especially an unknown one called Too Turned On by Alisha, and a song by Shannon, I think it's called Just one Night, or For Tonight, something like that. At least with this tape I hear 80's music that's not played to death by the so-called 80's stations that only have like 20 songs they play over and over.

I did too; I recorded over 100 cassettes from 1983-1988. Most of these were on 90 minute CrO2 and metal bias tapes. I haven't listened to them in years, so I don't know how much the sound quality has degraded. One of the good things about the 90's is that it brought cd recording technology to the masses.

I did frequently from about 1982-1989 when I thought it was stupid to do it anymore and lost interest in music at the time that has still left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Being a packrat, however I did manage to keep all the audio tapes from Dick Clark countdowns to just radio songs to local request favorites.

Video, on the other hand I started taping in the late 70s and have never stopped so I have well over 1,000 videotapes over 20 years later of sporting events, award shows, music videos, TV Specials and TV Shows so much to the point I am a video archivist and provide tapes to networks, museum curators, celebrities, collectors, etc. Funny thing is I also stopped taping all that stuff about 1989 when I lost interest in what was showing on TV, that still I cant stand most stuff on TV. But I have always taped sporting events to this day, that has never stopped.

I recorded 6 or 7 tapes off the radio back in the 80's, mainly music after 85'. Of course, it doesn't sound too good. The music was recorded on some cheap tapes I received as a Christmas gift from a fellow classmate back in the 6th grade in 1985. Remember back in grade school when you drew names and exchanged gifts? Anyway, I recorded a variety of pop music and still like to listen to it occasionally..

I actually recorded over the tapes that came with my Jem dolls! I could kick myself! I still have the dolls though. Prominently displayed on their doll stands in my apt.
