Subject: HELP! What did grownups do in the 80s?

Written By: Tesoro on 1/19/2000 at 11:35 a.m.

I'm trying to plan an 80s theme party for my office. Decorating ideas, invitations, etc., are pretty easy. But we also need something to DO. It's a big group, about 70 people, who don't know each other all that well. I don't want to do the traditional, typical, boring "force-me-to-do-them" icebreakers --any 1980s related ideas? I don't remember what adults spent their time doing then. I'm sure they didn't just play Atari and watch TV like I did. But if there was a "fad" that I could somehow turn into a game or activity for people to get to know each other ...

try checking out my page on planning on 80s night, (link below) it has a list of things others have tried, some of them have been quite successful...

You could put people in groups of 4 and ask each group to compile a list of a few things they did in the 80s, or liked about the 80s, or hated about the 80s. I don't know what country you live in, but in the US there was a pretty bad recession, from what I understand. I think the grownups were just trying to pay the bills and still be able to buy us kids the toys we look back on so fondly now. I hear that people even got together and did a barter-system kind of thing back then. Like, say I'm a gardener and my friend is a dentist. I would do his gardening and he would fill my kids' cavities--but under the table and no money would be involved.
